Excellent Foundation In Theory

I have used this series for several years. The books move slow enough that you can grasp each concept, yet fast enough that you don't feel like theory learning is a terrible chore. Each book builds directly on the foundation of the last, with bits of review here and there. Highly recommend for students who are older and just beginning... the books won't insult their intelligence while providing a solid foundation for just starting out, or filling in holes in a theory education.

I love gear

Picking up this book really reminded me how much I like to read about stuff. New guns. New drones. New vehicles. New planes. Though, new subs and ships did leave me in a meh mood.

This combines the PDF releases of Gun Haven, MilSpecTech, This Old Drone, Unfriendly Skies and Deadly Waves. Keep that in mind if you bought any of those. For the discounted Amazon price, very much worth it to me to be able to buy the hardcover. Also led me to pick up the 2074 version.

Too much money for too little product

The latest game supplement for Shadowrun, the cyberpunk/fantasy role playing game is actually a hard back compilation of several game supplements previously available only as online PDF's. It is a list of weapons, drones, vehicles and missiles the players may want to use or may have used against them and it is all very nice but just much too expensive for what you get.

Harking back to 1989's weapons supplement the "Street Samurai Catalogue" each chapter is set up as the supply catalogue for a different company selling guns or trucks or drones etc. It gives the sales description, game stats and the now familiar `shadow talk." That is comments in the margins like notes on an internet website with `people' commenting on the product. The pictures of the items are very good and it is hard to find fault with any single page- if you allow that some of these things, like an ocean liner or aircraft carrier are going to be out of the price range of any player.

The problem is the number of items. A great many of these things had already appeared in earlier versions and could be worked out again. Likewise a great many of the missiles were pretty lock step for gamers to work out using rules in already published supplements. Some of the larger items, the afore mentioned ships as well as things like airliners are not really on the dock for purchases so their inclusion is mystifying. So the actual number of really *new* items that are useful was very limited. Add to that the artwork used on the front and end pages were already used in earlier supplements and there is a sense this was done on the cheap.

Overall each page is very nice and very well done. There just isn't enough new stuff to justify the high cost of the book, it just isn't worth it. The fact that the cover plate when you open the book was previously used as the cover of the 2nd Ed. Rigger Black Book, pretty roundly recognized as the worse supplement in Shadowrun's 20+ year history should be a warning to someone.

Visually pretty, but a little sparse for the cost

This book is more or less an expansion of more obscure equipment than what is presented in Arsenal. The interior art is very nice and all the pages are full color. It generally has a similar look to the 20th anniversary edition core book. As another reviewer mentioned much of equipment is outside the price range most shadowrunners can afford, but the inclusion of things like cargo submarines or fighter jets in a Shadowrun mission is probably more dependent on the creativity of the game master rather than whether the player characters can buy them personally. LISA TYLER is Associate Professor of English at Sinclair Community College in Dayton, Ohio./e She has published essays on Doris Lessing, Margaret Atwood, Marsha Norman, and Virginia Woolf. In addition to her work on Ernest Hemingway, her current research interests include the writings of Anne Beattie and Joyce Carol Oates, crisis communication, and the healing power of writing about traumatic events.

I enjoyed reading this book, it gave me a perspective on the stories that didn't seem possible in the various literature classes in school, which were too solopsistic and "What this story means to me" to be interesting.

Ogai Mori (1862-1922) stands in the foremost rank of modern Japanese novelists. I am so happy to have found the book that my great-uncles were reading when they came up with my grandmother's name. Grandma gave the name to my mother, I took it for myself (I liked it so much) and then gave it to my daughter. I just love having the story I heard all my life come to reality.

Achingly beautiful

This is a tale of complex people who in their interaction find life to be much more complicated than they had expected or feared. Suezo, a moneylender, is tired of life with his nagging, highly imperfect wife, so he decides to take a mistress. Otama, the only child of a widower merchant, wishes that she could provide for her aging father, and when an obviously rich man asks her to be his mistress, a new hope beckons. When Otama learns the truth about Suezo, she feels betrayed, and hopes to find a hero to rescue her. When Otama meets Okada, a medical student, she feels that she might indeed have met her hero.

This is a bittersweet story, a story of hope and unfairness. The wild geese wish only for freedom, but sometimes others use them for purposes they cannot imagine. Published between 1911 and 1913, this book gives an excellent peek into the society of early modern Japan.

This book is an achingly beautiful story, and a fascinating historical document. I highly recommend it.

The coflict between love and surperstition!!

This love story of a girl who became a lover of an old bill collecter and fall in love with a medical student is a sign of japanese mentality in the drastic changing situation between the periode "Edo" and periode "Meiji". As his first novel "Dancer"in wich he told his uncompleated love in Germany(at that time,having a foreign wife was a taboo), Mori tried to show the example of a conflict of natural feeling of love and the traditional superstition.Why the girl could not acheave her love? In Japan they said that a real love is a love forbidden, but it is sure that what Mori wanted to say in this book is not that beauty.

Early Recollections and Life of Dr. James Still

Dr. James Still's (1812-1882) wonderful autobiography is a classic that should at least be in every home in New Jersey for the enjoyment of adults and children alike. His life is an amazing tale of the son of former slaves growing up in extreme poverty and becoming one of the states earliest medical doctors. He was a distinguished herbalist at a time when most doctors relied on often questionable, patent medicines. Called "The Black Doctor of the Pines," he had a large biracial practice. He was also a distinguished spokesman for the black community in South Jersey. It's a book to curl up with and to read aloud.

Easily the Best Autobiography I have ever read

This book is amazing and Doctor James Still is the coolest guy I ever read about, I have read Martin Luther King and Benjamin Franklin's autobiogrpahy and I easily put this book on their level if not above them. I can not think of one person who is more interesting then this enlightened Dr. James Still and I am thankful I have just had the honor of learning about him though his own writing. Children should read this growing up and adults in there old age so that they never stop trying to aspire to greatness. This book made me laugh and cry and most importantly made me realize how much time hasn't changed people. Doctor James Still was incredibly ahead of his time, I mean reading the book I almost felt like he brought me back in time to visit him for tea, definetly a must read for any one into History, Medicine, Geography, Social Studies, Philosophy, and/or Science.

This is a book about 1 of eighteen children of slave parents. It is one of the remarkable stories involving the Still family. The books are availasble through the Still Family. James was a self taught Dr. who could cure cancer in the 1800's. Involved with the Underground Rail Road with his brother, Wm. Still. On 8/10/97 we will have our 128th family reunion started by Dr. James StillClarence H. Still Jr
